Each year the Friends of the Saint Louis University Liver Center sponsors two fund-raising events, Strathalbyn Farms Club-Shoot for a Cure and Diamonds Gala. All fundraising events help support the Friends mission to raise money to support the research efforts of the SLU Liver Center for the treatment and cure of liver diseases, and to promote understanding and awareness of liver disease.
This is an opportune time to highlight a few of the accomplishments of the Saint Louis University Liver Center made possible in part by our Sponsors and Donors.
- Hundreds of papers have been published describing various research activities of investigators and researchers within the Saint Louis University Liver Center. Dr. Adrian Di Bisceglie and Dr. Bruce Bacon were investigators and co-authors on four (two each) New England Journal of Medicine publications describing the findings of the new protease inhibitors which have revolutionized the treatment of Hepatitis C.
- New faculty members have been recruited into the Liver Center-Peter Horton, MD and Mark Dy-Liacco, MD, Department of Surgery and Layla Hajjafar, MD and Omer Junaidi, MD, Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology.
- We are proud to say five new seed research grants were awarded (Totaling $125,000).
- New research grants have been received from the National Institutes of Health and additional grant applications have been submitted and are pending potential award notices at this time. We use the monies generated by the Friend’s organization to support new research programs and to provide additional support for existing programs, both in clinical and basic research.
