Saint Louis University Liver Center

Saint Louis University Liver Center retains its exemplary ratings as a nationally recognized comprehensive program, conducting vital basic science and clinical research. The GI/Hepatology Clinical Studies Unit sees more than 500 clinical research patients each month who are involved with ongoing industry sponsored research protocols. Currently there are over 40 active clinical protocols with 15 new clinical trials pending site initiation. Members of this multidisciplinary Liver Center were either principal investigator or co-investigator on over 40 NIH, VA or foundation grants. More than 600 original papers, chapters, reviews and editorials have been published by Liver Center members.

Research Awards

Since inception, the Friends of the Saint Louis University Liver Center has provided funding to support innovative research. Over $5.4 million in initial start-up or seed grants has been directed to the following grant awardees. Many of these initial grants have assisted investigators in procuring substantially larger external research grants from the National Institutes of Health (NIH), VA and foundation awards totaling over $29 million, which represents more than a 17.5 fold return on investment.
